Welcome to the Pastor’s Page. Articles and sermons from the pastor are posted here for you to download. It is our hope that you find this page beneficial for your spiritual growth but not a substitution for regular church participation with the body of believers in your local area. Our prayer is that this resource would be one that encourages your walk with fellow believers but not as a replacement of being an active member with your local church.
Digital sermon recordings are available. You may request these by e-mailing beaverchurch@gmail.com or calling (503) 398-5508 or simply click use the player below.

If you would like to speak with Pastor Josh, please feel free to call or e-mail him for appointments. Everyone is welcome to stop by the church office, but due to the pastor’s schedule, the surest way to speak with him is to make an appointment. Please don’t hesitate if you would like to visit with him.

Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22
From the Pastor:Three convictions guide my preaching. First, I believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. As such, the Bible is without error in itself and is the only authority and foundation for all Christian doctrine and teaching.
Secondly, I believe that the Bible is relevant to the lives of modern Christians in practical ways.
Finally, it is not enough to listen to a good sermon, or to know a passage inside and out. Scripture demands response. As you listen to these sermons, or read the Bible, consider how you feel, what you should believe and how you should behave as a result of the Word. Be doers of the word and not hearers only.”

Paul’s Allegory

Today we are told that being a Christian is to be enslaved to an ancient and oppressive religion. Paul declares that Christians are actually free and must remember this in the face of societal pressure. Galatians 4 encourages us to be faithful in the face of such pressure.

    Unity & Diversity
    Series: Galatians
When the devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness, he attempted to use God's word against God's son by ripping it out of context and twisting its meaning. This is a method he uses to this day as he attempts to attack God's people with God's word. This means that it is vital that God's people know God's word well! Galatians 3 has one such contested passage and so we consider its abuse and its true meaning today. What does it mean that, in Christ, there is no male or female?

    God’s Bus Driver
    Series: Galatians
Through the first two and a half chapters of Galatians the question was, "How is one justified?" The answer was a loud, "By faith and not by works of the Law!" Now the question becomes, why was the Law given if not to justify? In this sermon we consider Paul's answer and find the goodness of God's law.

We in America love results and positive feedback. This can cause us problems, however, in the area of evangelism where results do not come quickly or constantly but depend on the work of God. The result is that we are tempted to adjust the message or to neglect evangelism altogether. If either of these tempt, then consider Paul's testimony in Galatians one.

    The Message
    Series: Galatians
In this sermon we begin the book of Galatians. This is a book with much to say about God's kindness but it begins with a curse! We consider what is so important that Paul pronounces a curse twice within the first ten verses of the book.

    Faith Like Magi
Many people know the facts of the Christmas story. Many even believe they are true. The real question, however, is how one responds to the facts. As we look at the coming of the Magi to see Jesus, we consider three responses to his birth.

    Advent 3 – 2017
The world measures and values people in many ways. An honest look at our lives tells us that we will not be long remembered by human society as not many are notable or famous. However, the Christmas story reminds us that God works and values very differently than humanity. In the display of his grace we have an invitation to joy and hope.

    Celebrating Christmas Rightly
As we look forward to the beginning of Advent we consider how to rightly celebrate a holiday or season not commanded in the scripture. Particularly in light of the contentious nature of our society even concerning Christmas, we must consider how to rightly celebrate this season. Colossians two and Isaiah 58 lead us in this consideration.

    Series: The Psalms
In Psalm 24 we ask the question of who is fit for the presence of God. After asking this question, the Psalm switches to a celebration of God entering his city. How do the two halves of the Psalm fit together? Who can stand in God's presence? We consider these questions as we work through the Psalm.
