Pastor’s Page

Welcome to the Pastor’s Page. Articles and sermons from the pastor are posted here for you to download. It is our hope that you find this page beneficial for your spiritual growth but not a substitution for regular church participation with the body of believers in your local area. Our prayer is that this resource would be one that encourages your walk with fellow believers but not as a replacement of being an active member with your local church.

Digital sermon recordings are available. You may request these by e-mailing beaverchurch@gmail.com or calling (503) 398-5508 or simply click use the player below.

Appointments

If you would like to speak with Pastor Josh, please feel free to call or e-mail him for appointments. Sermons

Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22

From the Pastor:Three convictions guide my preaching. First, I believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. As such, the Bible is without error in itself and is the only authority and foundation for all Christian doctrine and teaching.

Secondly, I believe that the Bible is relevant to the lives of modern Christians in practical ways.

Finally, it is not enough to listen to a good sermon, or to know a passage inside and out. Scripture demands response. As you listen to these sermons, or read the Bible, consider how you feel, what you should believe and how you should behave as a result of the Word. Be doers of the word and not hearers only.”

On Not Being a Pharisee
Keeping our balance as Christians is difficult.  We are prone to extremes!  Today we consider a balance that must be kept if we are to be strong Christians and, yet, avoid the errors of the Pharisees.

    Basics
We have all need a reminder of the basics from time to time.  In 1 Corinthians 15 the church Paul labored at for 2 years is given a reminder of the basics of the faith.  We join them in hearing this reminder and remembering the hope which we have been given.

    Humble Community
While we all hate hypocrisy, the temptation to use spiritual gifts to make much of our selves or to seek our own private good before that of others is always present.  In 1 Corinthians 14 we see a snapshot of a church that has surrendered to this temptation along with three questions useful for pursuing true godliness in the community of the church.

1 Corinthians 13 describes love using more negative terms than positive.  Today we look at those negative terms and draw conclusions from them based on how prevalent they are in our lives.

    Christian Love
1 Corinthians 13 exhorts Christians to love each other genuinely.  In our modern context, however, love is thought to be expressed either as passionate romance or as an act of pure will.  Is there another way?  Can Christians love in such a way that they are recognizable as disciples of Jesus?  We consider these questions as we look at 1 Corinthians 13.

    Spiritual Greatness
It is easy to get into a mindset of seeking to be spiritually great.  Sometimes we are even competitive about it!  In the scriptures we don't find this forbidden but are warned to pursue spiritual greatness in the right way.  1 Corinthians 12 and 13 points us in the right direction.
