    Steady
As we go into 2019 our world tells us there is every reason to panic.  The scriptures, however, invite us to be steady as we hold tightly to the truth of Jesus' work.  We turn to 1 Thessalonians 4 and 5 for hope encouragement as we begin a new year.

    The Love of God
Many people believe Christmas to be a time of love but fail to understand why.  Among those who know something about God's love expressed at Christmas, we tend to default to the romantic love of a new relationship.  In this sermon we attempt to turn our gaze higher in the consideration of God's incredible love.

    Joy
In Christian Europe a tradition called, "The Truce of God" forbid warfare during certain seasons such as Christmas.  Today, we talk about joy as if life observes the Truce of God during the month of December.  The reality we all know is that life does no such thing!  This being the case, how can we find joy?  We consider the examples of the wisemen and shepherds who found joy at Jesus' birth even though Rome still ruled and all they saw was a baby.

    Hope – Advent Week 1
The events we celebrate at Christmas are a part of a story that has inspired courageous missionaries to risk everything for 2000 years.  It is news worth sharing and news worth believing.  As we begin Advent, we reflect on the account of Jesus' birth in the gospel of Matthew and remember what a great and powerful work of God we celebrate.

    Driven
1 Corinthians 11:1 exhorts us to imitate Paul.  His life is a model of the Christian life.  In 1 Corinthians 9 we find that Paul is a driven man.  We consider what this means for our lives as Christians.

    Caution Required
Individuals and congregations are not all tempted in the same way but are inclined toward one or another sin based on personal history and personality.  As we come to 1 Corinthians 8 we find an important caution for truth loving churches.

Theology is the very practical work of understanding God's revelation of himself and it quickly impacts how we live.  In 1 Corinthians 7 we find a big theological idea tied to two very practical instructions regarding how we live our lives.

    Undivided
Having considered marriage we now turn to singleness in 1 Corinthians 7.  Before we can look at singleness, however, we have to consider two rival visions of reality.

    Christian Marriages
To many people today, divorce is a quaint thing to be concerned about given the great battles over marriage.  However, as we look at 1 Corinthians 7 we find that God has very specific instructions for his people regarding divorce.

    Matter Matters
Within Christianity we emphasize a spiritual relationship with the Lord.  When we are not careful, this leads to a thoughtlessness concerning our bodies which leaves us open to prevailing cultural attitudes regarding physical bodies.  The Corinthians made a similar error of downplaying the importance of the body to the Lord.  In 1 Corinthians 6 we find four correctives to this attitude.
